2003 Pontiac Bonspeed Concept
In 2003, General Motors was set to introduce the new Pontiac Sunfire
with the Ecotec 2.2L engine and a new look. GM asked Bonspeed to take
this new design and create a Concept with a tuner-car edge! Bonspeed
then had less than two months to create this one off Concept Car that
was set to debut in the GM booth at the International Auto Salon.
Almost every part of the car was restyled from the interior to the
Bonspeed special-mix DuPont "Road Stripe Yellow" paint. . The interior
features exotic Black Pearl leather with embossed inset Carbon Fiber
and Red accent stitching. Wide-body flares were sculpted directly to
the body of the car. In the rear, they are hand-formed steel and in
the front they are fiberglass. An original front and rear fascia were
designed as was the aluminum and steel wing and aluminum front air
scoops. Engine functions are monitored by a one off instrument cluster
featuring the famous Bonspeed "Roulette" gauge treatment. The driver
is protected by the triangulated roll bar and "Crow" three point
safety racing harness'. Custom touches to the interior are
complimented with a $15,000 "Diamond Audio Technology" D5 600.1 sound
system. To make the Bonspeed sure footed the specially designed
Bonspeed Racing wheels were wrapped around 12" drilled Baer disc
brakes with B F Goodrich G Force racing tires. The specially designed
Borla stainless steel exhaust system gives the twin cam Ecotech
improved breathing and a potent growl. An Air Ride Technologies
performance suspension system is fully adjustable to handles varying
road conditions. The car utilized only the very best components and
was met with rave reviews by such publications as Road & Track and
AutoWeek when it was first shown to the public.
Rock and Roll legend Marc Anthony of Van Halen owned and built the
prototype for GM through his company Bonspeed. A custom made Bass
Guitar finished in the special "Road Stripe Yellow" paint and signed
by Marc Anthony is sold with the car.
